Wind Energy Study Shows Vast Economic Impact in Oklahoma

Industry growth stems from forward-thinking policies

Oklahoma City (March 26, 2014) – State Chamber President and CEO Fred Morgan made the following comment on the release of the Economic Impact Group study of the wind industry in Oklahoma:

“This study clearly demonstrates the economic principle that you encourage actions you want and tax and over-regulate the ones you don’t. Oklahoma lawmakers decided that the wind industry would be an important component of the state’s energy portfolio and a big boost to rural areas. A decade after the first wind farms were built here we are seeing hundreds of millions of dollars spent in the state on construction and tens of millions annually in royalties and property taxes while voluntarily diversifying our energy portfolio. Oklahoma has become a leader in the wind industry. We hope this study will help in discussions on the future of the wind industry in the state and the role state policy plays in that future.”
