State Chamber President and CEO Comments on Government Reform Measures

Oklahoma City (February 20, 2019) – The State Chamber of Oklahoma President and CEO Fred Morgan released the following statement after Chairman Wallace’s comments on the budget and the passage of House Bill 2484 out of committee:

The OK2030 vision plan was designed to encourage visionary reforms to move Oklahoma forward. We are grateful that Governor Stitt and the Legislature have championed many of these reforms. Today, we were encouraged by action at the capitol and conversations surrounding our state’s budget. Chairman Wallace noted today the importance in setting aside funds into a state savings account. Oklahoma’s budget, while recovering, is still volatile and we need to prepare for the possibility of another dip in the economy. We can’t continue to raise taxes on Oklahoma’s businesses and families when our state is in need.

We are also encouraged by House Bill 2484 passing out of committee. Oklahomans deserve greater accountability in government and this bill is a great first step. It is the role of the Legislature to make sure that hard-earned taxpayer dollars are spent effectively. This measure helps ensure careful and sufficient oversight of the resources entrusted to our government by the people of Oklahoma.
