State Chamber Annual Meeting a Success in Shawnee

Hundreds on hand to hear Former U.S. Secretary of Commerce Carlos Gutierrez

Oklahoma City (June 18, 2014) – The State Chamber of Oklahoma held its annual meeting Wednesday at the Heart of Oklahoma Exposition Center in Shawnee. The meeting featured the installment of a new State Chamber Board of Directors Chairman and a keynote address from Carlos Gutierrez, former U.S. Secretary of Commerce under President George W. Bush.

Gutierrez spoke to the crowd of over 500 people on the topic of "Driving America's Business Agenda," explaining why business leaders cannot assume the job of advocating for American business will be done by someone else. He also covered current topics dominating the business pages, from tax increases and trade to labor laws and environmental regulations.

The new Chairman of the State Chamber Board is Chuck Mills, President and CEO of Mills Machine Company, a Shawnee manufacturer in business since 1908. He spoke to those assembled about the need for businesses to get personally involved in advocating and urged them to engage in the political process through groups like the State Chamber.
